Syd is the Executive Chairman of Australian Development Corporation Pty Ltd group and has had a long career in property. His group designed, constructed and owned multi-storey home units, commercial buildings, hotels and retail centres in Sydney, Parramatta, Brisbane, Melbourne and Canberra. One building retains the Institute of Architects ranking as “significant building of the 20th century”.
After gaining technical qualifications as a builder, Syd commenced his own business, building up a substantial property portfolio. His very hands-on approach to business underpins an intimate understanding of the workings of property investment and management.
Well known for his many sporting achievements, Syd received an OBE in 1971 and was inducted into the NSW Sports Hall of Fame. He was also recognised twice as Australian Yachtsman of the Year and three times as Ocean Racer of the Year. He also received the Award for Services to Yachting.
He was executive chairman and competitor in five America's Cup Challenges and captained the Australian teams for the Admiral Cup, the Australian Clipper Cup, the Australian Kenwood Cup and the Australian and New South Wales Southern Cross.
Syd has competed in over 40 Sydney to Hobart Yacht Races and achieved numerous victories including the World Championship One Ton Cup.
